• Be conversant and observe the Rules of the Game
• Play fairly, be competitive but not aggressive.
• During play, do not question a decision made by the Umpires either by gesture, look, verbally or by commenting to another player.
• Give the ball promptly to opponents for throw-ins, penalty shots, free and penalty passes etc.
• Ensure you are in the correct position indicated by the Umpire when penalties are set.
• Keep your self-control at all times and do not retaliate. Do not use obscene language at any time.
• Accept victory modestly and defeat graciously, you are representing your School/Club/County who will be judged on your behaviour.
• Shake hands with your opponent at the beginning and end of the game.
• Thank the Umpires for officiating your match.
• Enjoy your Netball.

UMPIRES RESPONSIBILITIES:
(in no particular order)

• a COMPREHENSIVE knowledge of the rules and match protocols supported by a need to analyse interpretations not only within the rules but more significantly between rules
• a COMPREHENSIVE knowledge of all match protocols e.g. - working with a colleague - conduct of pre-match responsibilities - conduct of all decisions and accompanying penalties
• conduct of injury time
• establishing rapport with players so that equity and security for ALL is paramount
• establishing an on court TONE which encourages maximum endeavour with an understanding of the nature of contest, player volatility and match pressures
• work to earn the respect of the player each time you officiate

COACHES RESPONSIBILITIES:

• WORKING knowledge of the rules (to include player responsibilities)
• instruction of the skills of the game so that there is an integral compliance with rules
• a philosophical acceptance that the spirit of the game rule is of prime importance
• a respect for the rights of the opposition coach and players
• to teach fair contest as part of skill acquisition and exposition
• to teach that players have behavioural responsibilities towards their opponents and the umpires
• to provide a safe and supportive structure around the team so that the effect of external pressures on players may be minimised as much as is possible

ADDITIONAL PLAYERS RESPONSIBILITIES:

• WORKING knowledge of the rules, including player responsibilities
• in taking a Throw-in
• in taking a Toss up
• in knowing where the penalties are taken for breaking, offside, over a third and throw in
• in the setting and taking of penalties
• in working with umpires during the game
• in the discipline rule from a preventative aspect
• in the spirit of the game expectations
• RIGHTS of opponents, both individual and team
• CORRECT clothing and footwear
• INJURY time, treatment and action needed in partnership with the time allowance of 2 minutes
